About For The Birds

What I do and why I do it!

I am a thirteen year-old kid with a love for wildlife and the natural world.  My father and grandfather spent much of their childhoods outside in nature and I'm pretty sure some of their curiosity and enthusiasm rubbed off on me!  My concern for the health and future of our environment and the animals that depend on it inspired me to try to do something to help.  I started this business with that in mind and I thank you for helping me to make a difference for our feathered friends!  From my home in New Jersey, I hand-craft each house with my own tools and I am proud to be able to offer a durable, safe and comfortable home for you to offer the birds on your property.

For The Birds designs and builds high quality, all wood birdhouses customized to meet the needs of a variety of bird species native to the mid-Atlantic and northeastern United States.  My Dad and I handmake each birdhouse in a small woodshop at our home in rural northwestern New Jersey and feel very lucky to be able to walk out our door and observe many of the birds for whom we are building houses in the fields and forests around us.  Sadly, we recognize that this could change because of the increasing pressures faced by wild birds and all other wildlife in the form of habitat loss, climate change and pollution.   Recognition of these pressures, along with our love of all wildlife, have inspired us to create a line of birdhouses that we hope people will purchase and put on their own properties to develop wild bird habitat and bolster bird populations.   Twenty percent of all profits will be donated to our favorite (and one of the world's preeminent) bird conservation organizations - The Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.   Details regarding the Lab and its extraordinary efforts in wildlife conservation and education may be found at https://www.birds.cornell.edu/home.  If you're feeling really inspired, please consider becoming a member!

Very pleased with the craftsmanship, the wood is very good quality and it's very interesting how each bird house is made for a different bird.
